Re. cutaneous fistula

Help---

Anybody have ideas for coding a cutaneous fistula to peristomal suprapubic area (skin) and perineum? SN is doing wound care and pt. on antibiotics. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

N99.538? Doesn't seem like enough

Thanks,

Lisa Engel, RN

  • Need the full name of the fistula in order to correctly code it. Cutaneous refers to the skin. The fistula is tunneled to the skin from what organ?

    Follow up for Nancy----"perianal" fistula

    Thank you
  • Sorry for the late delay.
A perianal fistula is coded to K60. Excludes fissure and fistula of anal and rectal regions with abscess or cellulitis (K61.-)
    Def:
Anal fistula is an abnormal, inflammatory connection between the anal canal and the skin surrounding the anal opening. Fistulas usually originate in the anal glands located between the layers of the anal sphincter muscles and are frequently a complication of an anal abscess. Symptoms include pain, itching and (purulent) drainage.

Yes, I used K60.3 f/b L02.211 because the abscess is on the abd. I hope this is correct. Thanks for steering me to the missing piece which I could not figure out at the time!
