MD states "MDR ecoli bacteremia w/ cholangitis, in setting of HCC" (liver cancer)
how would this get coded?
I have:

Are you doing IV's or anything for this? Is patient on Antibiotic?

Ok, there is an Excludes 1 note under the Bacteremia regarding use of B96.20 so this is how I would code it, not saying I am right but after looking things up here goes:

    R78.81
    K83.0
    Z45.2
    C22.8

Then I would also code any co-morbidities going on with patient.

  • I see the excludes note now... thanks.. I wonder if I can use the ecoli code under the cholangitis?

Try it, if you have a program that you can run oasis check it would give you error warning regarding the exclusion notes. I use Kinnser and I know when I run the PPS + analysis it will tell me
