DVT

Patient discharged from hospital with acute DVT, which is still being treated. However, am I correct that we can not code acute care as the primary diagnosis in M1021? Physician stated patient has a history of DVT, but does not state that it is chronic. What should I code a primary?

    I believe if the MD notes that the DVT is still acute and is being treated and the nurse focuses care/teaching on the acute DVT, it can be used as primary for M1021.
