Has anybody came across a code for this or do you know how to code this? This is the first time I have seen this.

  • HONK is an older name for HHS, Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic State (HHS). HONK stands for hyperosmolar non-ketotic coma.
This is a very acute state for a type II diabetic with extremely high blood sugars in severe dehydration (hyperosmolar state) and without spilling ketones (non-ketotic).
Treatment is supportive, in ICU setting with an insulin drip and IV fluids.
