  • The first skilled billable visit makes the SOC.
The OASIS must be completed within the 5 day window.
If nursing is providing services, then nursing should do the first billable visit with the OASIS.
Since nursing did not see the patient first, the therapist did, then the therapy visit is the SOC for your episode, providing written consent is obtained by the patient. The nurse has 5 days to complete the OASIS.

Good grief, I do not know this person who wrote this.
    I was thinking of our non-nurse SOC's for therapy-only.
My bad. At least I was half right!

  • No they cannot do both. If someone can go outpatient therapy they are not considered home bound, which is a requirement for home care.

Not necessarily. It depends on the payer. I have had some commercial payers allow for both depending on the specific circumstances.
  • Debbie is absolutely correct.
I have studied Medicare regulations extensively in my career. This is allowed under Medicare PPS as long as the out-patient therapy contracts with the HH because the HH will be the only business being paid and therefore will have to pay the OP therapy for the service provided which is needed but cannot be provided in the home like whirlpool treatments. It is all for the recovery of a stroke patient in the out-patient setting. Just because they leave home to go to a treatment does not make them not home-bound with a taxing effort leaving home.
