OA of the knee, hips, etc.

When a patient has OA of the right knee and has that replaced do you code OA of the left knee still? If it has not be established the patient has it bilateral I do not code it that way but other people say if a person is elderly then most likely they have OA in both joints (laterally). What are your thoughts?
