Shock with multi organ failure

Records say Multi-Organ Failure due to shock. Would I use severe sepsis? Client had surgery for Leiomyosarcoma of abdomen. Or would I just list the different organ failures? This is a Hospice patient.

    You did not specify if the shock was due to infection (severe sepsis from infection or from non-infectious process), or due to injury, or post-op complication. You will use the underlying etiology to determine what code to use, and then follow the guidelines and definitions very closely for the code you choose.
