Car insurance

Hello!
Can anyone point out a regulation that requires home health agencies to track car insurance on their field staff?
Thank you
Lisa

In Arkansas, we did it because the State law requires it. To be a responsible agency, we made sure all personnel complied with the law in regards to their vehicles.
No HH regulation on that one here. Just a State reg.

Thank you Nancy. It the law you are referring to a Home Health State reg? Im in Illinois and we have been tracking that, but I can't find a reg or policy to support why we do it. I thought maybe it was another reg, i.e. OSHA, or some safety reg

The state reg I am referring to is one for all motorists.

Check with a non-skilled service company in your town or state, like a Medicaid in-home service with only Aides giving care to the elderly and disabled. They can really tell you why and how they track auto coverage.

  • I think it is also a company policy to prevent any issues with liability if a caregiver has an accident, for example, on worktime, the company could be liable for lawsuit.

No federal tag. Just wondered why we continue to track car insurance if there is no reg requiring it

It just seems to me that it is only common sense to track car insurance. One it's the law to have it, if your employee has a horrific accident and their insurance is not in force, those affected are going to come after someone. Better their liability, than your company.

State regulations for motorists, not HH
