DIABETES WITH PAD

Good Afternoon, I am looking for further clarification for diabetes with pad/pvd E11.51- the coding tip in the book indicates we should also code an I70.xx code when we use e11.51. I have a 2 part question

A) is this just when we have MD confirmation of a diabetic arterial ulcer? Coding would be E11.51/I70.xxx/L97.xxx

b) - if we just have diabetes with pad/pvd are we required to add an I70.xxx code? example would be E11.51/I70.209 or just E11.51

    If all you have physician documentation of is diabetes and PAD/PVD, you only code E11.51. You can only include I70.xxx if you have documentation of arteriosclerosis.
