Can an old healed surgical wound that recurs be considered a complication?
Hi. I am coding a patient that had a tummy tuck 40 years ago, and the MD documented a recurring ulcer at the surgical site. The MD documents in the H&P a large full thickness undermined ulcer with granulating bed and calls it's a chronic abdominal ulcer, but codes it as an open abdominal wound S31.109A. There was no indication that there was any trauma to the abdomen. What do I code? L98.492 Non-pressure chronic ulcer of skin of other sites with fat layer exposed or T81.31XS Disruption of external operation (surgical) wound, not elsewhere classified, sequela. Thanks in advance!!!!
