Sorry for delay, patient under went a L hip joint replacement, after procedure developed a post procedural hematoma. I wasn't sure if we just code the M96.840 post procedural hematoma or is there a complication of hip joint procedure and then the hematoma. If we do code a complication of procedure what is that code. Maybe I am just overthinking, but I want to be coding correctly
If the hematoma itself is on the skin/subcutaneous tissue, it would be:
L76.32 - Postprocedural hematoma of skin/subcutaneous tissue following other procedure.
If the hematoma is on a musculoskeletal structure it would be:
M96.840 (as you mentioned).
I was lead to both of these codes while searching "postoperative complication". It just depends on the location of the hematoma.
Comments
Is the hematoma on the skin or another organ/structure?
