amputation of right lower leg

pt has amputation of right great toe in Dec, 2016 due to diabetic ulcer with gangrene, wound continued to decline and pt was readmitted to hosp for amputation of Right lower leg. would I code after care following amputation or would this be a complication of previous amputation? pt has per MD :diabetes with PVD, Diabetes with neuropath. I think I have confused myself.

    Continue with complication code since it is the reason why the patient unfortunately had the amp of leg
