Diabetes with hyperlipidemia

Can we assume a relationship between diabetes and hyperlipidemia?
Can we code E1169 and E785 together?

    No we can't assume - hyperlipidemia isn't listed under "with" DM. E11.6- is for "other 'with' DM" complications, such as Osteomyelitis or dermatitis, etc. If the MD had documented the hyperlipidemia as diabetic related, then yes, it would be coded to E11.69.
