pericolostomy hernia

pericolostomy hernia?
First time I have heard this type hernia. Is this another term for paracolostomy hernia? K43.5

  • Hi Carrie.
Either someone is being WONC-specific about the location of the protrusion or perhaps the provider is foreign-trained. A hernia is a condition in which part of an organ is displaced and protrudes through the wall of the cavity containing it. "Peri" means about or around. "Para" means at or to one side of.
For the coding purposes, the code is the same as you found
Look at the documentation for any description or procedures. That will define it.
Usually I have seen "peri" in reference to a peristomal ulceration, not a pericolostomy hernia.
