CKD

Question for coders and nurses. On CKD patients, would there be a possibility a patient could have ESRD without other etiology of Hypertension, diabetes, etc? My thought is yes, but rarely. Just getting other opinions.

  • I would query the MD. Whatever they say goes!
  • ESRD can be caused by glomerulonephritis, by the kidneys being injured-like a car wreck, by being in a tourniquet too long during surgery or a number of other things. Removal of necrotic kidneys or perhaps CA spread to the perfectly normal kidneys from somewhere else.. HX of a transplant gone bad. Born with congenital issues... the list goes on and on!!!!!!
