Venous insuff VS PVD

When a pt has both Venous Insufficiency and PVD documented, do we use both codes or is VI just more specific? They are both "veins" so I'm a little confused

by the difference.

Venous insufficiency is a problem with the veins, PVD is the arteries so it would be correct to code both

  • Correction Mandy:
Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is a slow and progressive circulation disorder caused by narrowing, blockage, or spasms in a blood vessel. PVD may involve disease in any of the blood vessels outside of the heart including the arteries, veins, or lymphatic vessels.
