HCS-D Renewal

I earned the HCS-D last year and it is now time for me to renew... I see this $229 renewal fee and it is kind of making me nauseous. I'm rather surprised because there aren't many CEUs required for the renewal, but there is a whole lot of money required, which is very backwards from other credentialing organizations. I have coding certifications with AAPC and AHIMA, and I don't pay $229 to renew all of the other 5 certs I have combined...
So does anyone know why this cert is so expensive? Or if there is any way that anyone knows of to NOT pay $229 to renew? Or perhaps does anyone know if the other Home Health certification out there is less expensive? I know it begins with a B, but I forget the name...
Had I known I'd have to pay this much money annually to maintain this cert, no way in the world would I have pursued it.

  • I have the BCHH-C (board certified home health-coding). It's good for 3 years. I'm not sure how much it is earn initially or to renew, but you can find what you need at ncbhh.com (National Credentialing Board of Home Health and Hospice).

  • Yes, there is an exam. You can take the exam as a stand-alone (testing center I believe) or participate in a 3 day class then test on-site.
