Re Apligraf

Hi
Is a pressure treated with Apligraf considered a surgical wound?

Thank you

  • Even though Apligraf is a bioengineered graft that's not sutured in, you would still make it surgical?
    Thank you!
  • Apligraf is still considered a skin graft for now for OASIS C2 that makes it a surgical wound for OASIS.

  • This is now one of those things where OASIS and coding are different. It is a surgical wound for OASIS but we would code unstagable pressure ulcer. If there is a donor site as well then we can also code aftercare.
If the graft becomes complicated we would code the complication. We have not received any guidance yet if we would also code the original wound as well. I'm leaning toward coding both in that case. For the trauma wounds and burns they change with skin graft for OASIS now as well but we would still code the burn or open wound. In those case even with the complicated skin graft I would still code the acute trauma wound with an A for the complication along with the specific graft complication.

    Thanks,
