complication of surgery

I wanted to know how you all would code this. I have a patient with PVD who was having an arthrectomy on her r leg and the stent became lodged. They tried unsuccessfully to get it out and then consulted surgery. Surgeon removed it surgically-a R common artery exploration and repair.

I'm leaning toward I97.88- Other intraoperative complications of the circulatory system, not elsewhere classified then the PVD. Is this right?

    Hi Jenny.
    My Opinion for what it is worth.
    The "complication" occurred prior to the surgery consult, which was called in to fix it. HH was consulted post-op. The HH is addressing post-op surgery, not a post-op complication because the surgeon already addressed it, not caused it. Does that make sense?
    The HH coding will be aftercare CV surgery.

    Your complication code will go in M1011 (not in M1017) or that is how I would do it.
