Fracture Type
I have a review to code that the physician referral stated pathological fracture. The SN at SOC documented the patient fell and fractured her humerus while on vacation and had an ORIF. Then after returning home about 2 mo later she developed pain and the ortho surgeon performed an IFIR and told the patient the first surgery did not work because of her osteoporosis. So my question is...since the physician documentation says "pathologic fracture", is this the way I should code it? Seems to me, that this scenario is more like a complication or delayed healing one where the fracture was traumatic but the chosen treatment did not work (hardware installed failed) due to osteoporosis but also the hardware. Please help me correctly code this review. Thanks
