stasis ulcer

In ICD10, do we use 2 codes for Stasis Ulcer (like in ICD9) or does the one code (Varix w/ ulcer....) cover it?

Thank you!

  • My understanding is one - but you need to add the nonpressure ulcer code as
    well

  • Hi,
Coding a stasis ulcer as a varix depends if there is a statement of with or without varicose vein. If it is without a varicose vein or there is no statement of the ulcer being related to varicose veins then per guidance you would code I87.2 followed by the correct L97. If you have a book you can read further guidance about this on page 1034/1035 in the 2016 Decision Health coding manual. I couldn't seem to find this information through the coding center but I can confirm this is in the book. Hope this helps.

  • I found it in the coding center. The guidance on "stasis ulcer" comes up under the I87.2 code.
