When patient has a thoracentesis or paracentesis do we use an aftercare code? Or do we just code the diagnosis related to the procedure?

    You will code the diagnosis. There is no AC code as it is not "surgery", it is an interventional radiologic procedure, same as a cut-down for large-vein access is a procedure, same as insertion of a drain is a procedure etc. Those procedures are not "surgeries".
