RE: re:Heart transplant question

I am so sorry, I meant to send that message to a colleague, not the entire group. Although, would be interested in what other's opinions are to the Breast Cancer question - if you have a patient with metastatic breast cancer that has had a mastectomy, do you include the breast cancer diagnosis, or only the metastatic site?

Thanks

This is one person's response to the question about whether chf, cardiomyopathy, etc would be coded after heart transplant. Only a person's opinion, I would have to look in book to figure it out for sure. As far as the Breast Cancer question, on this Home Care Coding site, people give completely different opinions.........some say code breast cancer after mastectomy, and some say don’t. Honestly, for hospice I would do just as you did and err on the side of coding it......not very helpful, sorry

I would say it depends on the documentation, just as a kidney transplant patient can have ckd or esrd, it is not assumed, however if stated, it is coded.
