Complicated Coding

Hi All,
I need some help with this one.
Patient with self inflicted gunshot wound to leg that resulted in the
ultimate amputation of that leg. What would you use for primary??
I went with the following:
S81.802s
X74.8xxs
z89.612
Am I on the right track???
Thanks for your help.
Dawn

What is the main focus of care? Is this a fully healed amputation, normal healing amputation, or complicated (delayed healing, dehiscence, etc.)? Also, need to clarify if the self-inflicted gunshot was accidental or intentional.

  • Thanks Susan,

This is a normal healing amputation wound, gunshot was self inflicted and
    intentional.

Ok, if normal healing and there are absolutely no sequela (phantom limb pain, etc.), then I would code 7th character D for the injury and the X74 code.
